Network Operations Services

OSI has the expertise in network engineering support for all aspects of the network environment, to include signal transmission, IP routing and switching, infrastructure design, telephony, video teleconferencing, audio/visual automation, and theater specific application administration.

Additional support for various technology policy and management related functions including information assurance; COMSEC, Change management and Operation Process management. OSI is also experienced in installation, migration and management of its telecommunication (wired and wireless) and its enterprise network using ITIL methodologies. OSI personnel have experience in inventory, planning and migration of large and complex networks. Some of our customers for these services include US Army, DRS Defense Solutions and Sungard Services.

Network Survey

Examine current LAN and/or WAN topology, routing equipment (switches/routers) used. Examine network and routing protocols and WAN encryption used. Assess client-identified capacity or performance problems in existing LAN and/or WAN. Establish availability of network utilization statistics as evidence of problems. Identify LANs impacted by WAN design project. Examine topology of affected LANs and methods of WAN interconnection. Understand existing network management strategy, products employed and scope of management capabilities on WAN. Identify existing enterprise applications (e.g. generating WAN traffic). Confirm functionality of applications (servers, clients, location, architecture, protocols, traffic characteristics, encryption requirements and usage profile). Establish availability of traffic profile statistics on existing application usage. Confirm functionality of new enterprise applications (servers, clients, location, architecture, protocols, traffic characteristics, encryption requirements and expected usage profile). Confirm existing or future applications or interconnect products (PBXs, voice gateways, and interconnect switches) that converge voice, data, and video over the WAN. Identify existing and planned use of name resolution (e.g. DNS) and address management (e.g. DHCP) services.

Network Design

Analyze traffic profiles and usage characteristics of enterprise applications. Define LAN and/or WAN requirements (e.g. bandwidth, QOS, encryption) for multiple sites. Develop alternative technical design scenarios that address LAN and/or WAN requirements, accommodate technical constraints and meet client preferences. Define network topology and identify central, regional and remote sites. Define routing protocol methodology (e.g. OSPF, EIGRP). Define WAN link types and speeds for interconnecting sites (e.g. Point-to-point) and encryption capabilities. Define router configurations for each site (port configuration, network and routing protocols, encryption facilities). Recommend network management strategy for incorporating WAN equipment proposed (e.g. SNMP agents). Establish any client preferences for routing protocols (e.g. OSPF, EIGRP). Discuss and agree IP addressing conventions for routers, host computers, user devices and dynamically allocated addresses.

Network Design

Prepare and present reports to clients. Develop Functional Specification confirming client’s business objectives, functional requirements and project timeframes. Develop Technical Design and discuss alternative technical scenarios considered. Include detailed design of recommended WAN topology, carrier services and network equipment. Manage all project personnel activities and oversee any subcontractors’ efforts to ensure timely task completion. Organize and conduct regular status meetings with client and project team to monitor all activities and review project progress against plan. Prepare minutes from status meetings outlining project’s status against plan and detail open issues and action items. Distribute to all concerned parties to advise them of project status to ensure contractual commitments are met. Maintain project log of all open issues, responsibilities and commitment dates and report these, as appropriate, to the client project manager. Initiate and manage problem reporting, escalation and resolution activities to ensure timely resolution of reported problems. Assist client with resolution of problems or changes that may occur during project. Ensure all changes are assessed for impact on timelines, priorities and costs and are agreed with client. Document all client amendments to project using change control procedures. Distribute change control documents to relevant client, and subcontractor personnel. Instigate modifications to project plan resulting from agreed change orders and review with client project manager. Monitor progress of change order completion relative to project plan. Co-ordinate and monitor product delivery, inventory control and on-site implementation to meet project contractual requirements. Manage product replacement in event of failing, damaged, incorrect or short shipped product deliveries.
